Laser & IPL Treatments

At Welwyn Aesthetic Clinic all treatments are carried out by an experienced Registered Nurse, using state of the art medical laser and IPL equipment.

Typically, a treatment session lasts up to 30 minutes.

How does the treatment work?

Precisely controlled pulses of filtered light are used...the intensity and wavelength varying according to the condition being treated.

How is the treatment carried out?

The first step is a consultation with our specialist Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner who assesses your suitability for treatment, taking into account your expectations and your medical history.

You will have every aspect of your personal treatment schedule explained, and will be required to sign a consent form to the procedure taking place. We will then carry out a patch test on a small area of your skin to confirm there are no adverse reactions to the laser / IPL treatment.

During treatment you will be asked to wear goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to be treated, this helps the light to be guided into the skin. The light applicator, which treats a small area with each pulse, is placed on the skin.

A short pulse of light is then emitted, and then the applicator is moved to the next skin area and the process is repeated. When the entire area has been treated, the chilled gel is removed and the skin is moisturised.

Does it hurt?

No anaesthetic is required and patients usually do not find the treatment unpleasant, describing the sensation as nothing more than a hot pin-prick.

Welwyn Aesthetic Clinic also uses a skin cooling machine during treatments. This minimises discomfort and allows the use of optimal intensity settings, (leading to more effective results more quickly,) without damaging the skin. You will find that not all establishments offering IPL treatments have skin cooling equipment.

Are there side effects?

The skin feels warm after treatment and a reddening of the skin is quite usual, however, this quickly fades. Occasionally the skin may darken or lighten in tone, but these effects are temporary.

How many treatments will I have?

Depending entirely on the severity or extent of the condition, between 1 to 6 sessions at monthly or two-monthly intervals.
